A few of the best treks in the world. by Thom Sanders
Many of us consider the perfect holiday to be chilling out beside a pool, taking the weight off our feet and ultimately having some time away from the stresses of life. Some of us however want to seize the moment, pushing themselves to experience some of the greatest sights the world has to offer. If you’re one of these people, you will certainly enjoy trekking holidays. While these can become incredibly strenuous and tiresome, reaching the peak through the pain gives the ultimate sense of accomplishment. Here are some of the best treks to experience in the world.
Macchu Picchu
Our journey begins in Peru, along the route built by the ancient inca tribe. Take your self along the heights of the Andes mountain route all the way to the forgotten hillside city of Machu Picchu. This UNESCO heritage site was believed to have been built back in AD 1400, but only discovered in 1911. It remains one of the most mysterious places in the world, being completely cut off from the outside world and only accessible through trekking. The types of trek depend on the height of the route. The more difficult trek can expose walkers to heights of up to 3,700m, offering incredible views of the mountain wildlife as well as snow covered peaks of the Andes Mountain range.
Kilimanjaro
This dormant volcano in Tanzania offers one of the most popular trekking routes in the world. Walkers are invited to test their grit, strength and determination to battle the elements to climb nearly 6000m to the peak of the mountain. Once again it’s not just your standard walk up a hill, with a combined route of more than 100km ascending more than 4400 metres in seven days can have disastrous affects on your body if you’re not both physically and mentally prepared for the challenge.
Everest Base Camp trek
Finally we’re on to the tallest mountain in the world. While attempting to climb to the top would take months of preparation and cost more than £25,000, reaching the 5,500 metre base camp is a considerably cheaper but still a highly commendable achievement. Although the trek isn’t as high as the Kilimanjaro trek, it offers some real tests of Strength And Fitness from battling freezing winds and climbing steep crevasses to reach the camp. It offers incredible views of not only Everest, but also the other giants of the Himalayan mountain range.
That was just a couple of excellent treks to push your body to the limits. If you’re interested then why not browse through the many different types of trekking holidays to see which one suits you.
